NWOAL Quad Action

PH's Keith Palmer is in control
I took in a little bit of the Northwest Ohio Athletic League quad on Thursday at Wauseon. Lots of great action there and there was a great crows there as well. If there was any doubt about these NWOAL quads, it was removed from my mind. It was a great setup, moved along well and best of all had great wrestling. They also brought out a way to let those in the stands know who was wrestling by assigning every wrestler a number and then posting those numbers next to mat at the start of each bout … GENIUS!
I’m guessing that when the league title is up for grabs at the tournament any one of several teams could win it. Archbold bested league favorite Liberty Center on Tuesday and turned around yesterday and was handily defeated by Wauseon. Throw them all into a tourney format with great individuals from PH, Swanton, Evergreen and a Montpelier team that is cruising and the league team champ could come from anywhere.

Wauseon state qualifier Nick McCall
One thing that stands out from last night is Xavier Dye bumping up to 189 to take on Nick McCall. Now, mind you, Nick McCall is a stud! He’s a monster on the mat with no holes in his game physically. And after claiming a 6-5 decision there’s little doubt that Dye is also a man. If you’re an all-district type noseguard during football season you know you’re a blue-collar hero and to bump up to take on a state qualifier speaks volumes. I expect both of these guys to be wrestling on Saturday in Columbus for the next two years.

Also saw a great roll-around between 103s Zach Morrow of Wauseon and Ben Eggers of Archbold. Those two guys were going at it! An impressive showing guys!
Also impressed with the steady match Brandon Volkman gave to Danny Young. Volkman weathered an early storm from Young and showed that his technique and conditioning were both very sound.
There are more pictures from the match on the crescent-news web site feel free to check them out!
