Tinora's Jessie Flory … the Lady Rams are one of three area teams standing at 10-0 at the midway point of the regular season

It’s hard to believe the ’09-10 girls basketball season is halfway complete for some teams in the six-county area. Where did it go, and what’s been happening?

Well …

Three area teams – Tinora, Kalida and Ottoville - remain undefeated. Since the big Kalida-Ottoville game didn’t happen as advertised last week because of nature’s fury, both squads stand at 10-0 with the second half of the season upcoming. If things continue to play out fortunately for the Lady Wildcats and the Big Green, their rescheduled matchup will only be more intense with a possible PCL title and an unblemished regular season mark at stake.

After squeaking by Bryan on Tuesday evening, Tinora now joins Ottoville and Kalida with a record of 10-0 as the remaining area team with a perfect record thus far. The Lady Rams have looked good with a trademark defense and a smothering press which has posed much difficulty for opposing teams. And knowing head coach Rich Thiel, he will keep the girls motivated down the stretch and into the postseason.

In Buckeye Border Conference action, Pettisville snapped Stryker’s BBC winning streak of 35 games with a 48-38 win over the Lady Panthers on Friday. Stryker had swept the BBC with a 10-0 record for the past three years. It is now the Lady Blackbirds perched atop the conference with a 4-0 league record and 5-4 overall. But chin up, Stryker fans, the Lady Panthers are still within striking distance with half of the season yet to play.

Should be interseting …

Back to the GMC, though, Holgate slipped to 10-2 after losing the battle of Henry County to Patrick Henry, 40-39. However, with six league games yet to play, the Lady Tigers are sure to be in the race for the crown down the stretch. Also pushing for GMC glory are Wayne Trace (7-3) and Fairview (6-4), both of which opened league play with a victory.

The Lady Patriots, meanwhile, sit right behind Archbold (10-1, 4-0 NWOAL) and Wauseon (7-1, 4-0 NWOAL) with a league record of 2-1 in the Nortwest Ohio Athletic League.

So get out and support your area teams as the second half of the season kicks in. The tournament trail will be here before we know it.

And, as always, be safe and take care.
