One-run victories

18 April 2009 2 Comments

nastydog.gifThe Bulldogs continue to find a way to get it done, winning a pair of one-run games on Saturday against Tiffin Columbian and Fremont Ross. Defiance downed Columbian 2-1 behind a solid pitching performance by Justin Hancock, who went the distance allowing five hits and just the one run with five strikeouts and three walks. RBI singles from Mark Sebring and Dakota Westrick were the difference in the opener.
In the nightcap, Defiance built a 5-1 lead and held on for the 5-4 win. Craig Gutman, who had two hits against Columbian, added a pair of singles and his fifth homer of the season to power the Bulldogs. Corbin Stykemain earned the win and Alex Nofziger was clutch in relief. Sebring added three singles to finish with four hits on the day. Defiance is now 10-1 on the season and rolling along with Tinora on tap Monday.

Thanks for the blog. It’s nice to know how the baseball boys are doing when the C-N isn’t updated online.

It’s nice to receive the final word, with the extra quotes and comments that don’t make the paper, from you after getting incomplete updates through the phone during the game. I don’t care for going to the Tiffin and Freemont papers online to see final scores.

    Thanks, again.
