At the game!
I’ve been trying to get my computer fired up here at Ohio Stadium to blog and let my loyal readers know that I’m at THE GAME cheering on my Buckeyes. I had hoped to blog the scoring as it went along, but it looks like I’m three touchdowns behind. On a personal note, it’s always fun to see who’s going to be at the game up here in the press box. What a great perk of my job, getting the chance to come here.
Beanie Wells went 59 yards for a TD, Brian Hartline scored on a 53-yard bomb from Terrelle Pryor for Ohio State, and Brandon Minor scored on a 1-yard plunge for Michigan. The Wolverines currently have the ball at the OSU 41 with 18 seconds left in the first half and OSU leading 14-7. If Michigan can get a score here, that would be some big momentum. The Wolverines get the ball to start the second half.
Now, I’ll give updates as I go along. I know most people are watching on TV, but hopefully this is good for someone out there who’s on the Internet and for whatever reason can’t watch.
• The Michigan drive stalled, they had to punt and now it’s halftime with Ohio State leading 14-7.
• Ohio State is getting ready for the second-half kickoff. Let’s Go Bucks!
• Michigan has the ball at its own 24 to start the third quarter. The Wolverines drove to the Ohio State 38 before the drive stalled. The punt pins the Buckeyes back at their own 9-yard line with 11:43 to play in the third quarter.
• Big run Beanie Wells – 42 yards. Big run Boom Herron, 49 yards to paydirt and just like that Ohio State is back up by 14 points, 21-7 with 11:04 to play in the third quarter. For those of you who don’t like to do math, that’s 91 yards on two plays to score. Great defense Wolverines!
• Nice return of the kickoff by Michigan’s Boubacar Cissoko, out to the Michigan 32 with 10:56 to play in the third quarter. James Laurinaitis just lit up Michigan QB Nick Sheridan on the sideline … wow what a hit. With less than 10 minutes left in the third quarter the Michigan drive stalls. at their own 32, but Ohio State is called for roughing the kicker, giving Michigan new life at the Ohio State 49 with 9:30 left in the third quarter. Long pass play broken up by Ohio State’s Malcom Jenkins. Another Michigan punt, Ohio State takes over at its own 25-yard line with 8:28 left in the third quarter.
• Ohio State’s drive goes nowhere, just five yards and here comes A.J. Trapasso. Trapasso’s punt gives Michigan the ball at its own 19-yard line with 6:43 to play in the third quarter.
• Big gainer on a pass for Michigan on second down from Sheridan to Darryl Stonum, followed by another big run. Looks like Michigan is going hurry-up. Michigan had the ball at the OSU 34, but Michael Shaw was stuffed by Kurt Coleman. The attendance was just announced and it’s the fourth-largest crowd in Ohio State history. Now Michigan is facing a third-and-15 at the OSU 39. Sheirdan had nowhere to go and he losses one. Here comes another Michigan punt. What a huge punt return by Ray Small from his own 20 all the way to the Michigan 8-yard line. The return is officially 80 yards.
• Ohio State takes over with 4:00 to go in the third quarter and it only takes one play for Pryor to hit Brian Robiskie for an 8-yard touchdown. Don’t look now but the rout is on! The point after is good and Ohio State leads 28-7 with 3:54 to go in the third quarter. For all you folks out there, that’s a 6-second drive. If Michigan doesn’t get it together, Ohio State is going to cover the 20 1/2 point spread.
• With 3:49 to play in the third quarter, Michigan has the ball at its own 19-yard line to start another drive. Justin Feagin is in at quarterback for Michigan. It hasn’t helped on the first two plays, Ohio State is stuffing the run. Sheridan has a sprained ankle. The Michigan drive stalls and Ohio State takes over at its own 34 with 1:53 left in the third quarter.
• A long pass to Robiskie is just out of his reach and now Boom Herron gets nothing on second down for Ohio State. Where is Beanie? Can anyone tackle Pryor? He just got away from two Michigan defenders on third-and-10 to throw a long pass, 35 yards to be exact to Dane Sanzenbacher. Herron follows up with a 19-yard gain and Ohio State is at the Michigan 2. The third quarter is over and Ohio State leads 28-7 and going for more when the game resumes. Here’s a question for Michigan fans, even though Rich Rod is in his first year? Did you really think that you would finish 3-9? If I didn’t dislike Michigan football so much, I would almost feel sorry for the Wolverines. Back to the game … A pass on first down to Rory Nicol is incomplete. It looks like Michigan may have intercepted it in the end zone, the play is under review. After review, no interception, OSU ball on the Michigan 2-yard line. Boom Herron, 2-yard touchdown run and now it looks like it’s time to put the women and children to bed so Ohio State can go and find some supper … this game is over, over, over. Ohio State leads 35-7 with 14:52 left in the fourth quarter.
• Just to let anyone who is following this know, with eight minutes left in the game, I’m going to go down on the field and watch the rest of the game so I can stand out on the field and sing Chimes and Carmen Ohio after the game by the team. It’s going to be sweet … Tressel will be 7-1 against Michigan, including leading the Buckeyes to their fifth-straight victory in the series. How sweet it is to love the Buckeyes.
• Michigan fumbles the ensuing kickoff and Ohio State’s Marcus Williams gets it at the Michigan 22. Can it get any worse for the Wolverines? With 14:45 left in the game, Ohio State brings in Todd Boeckman at quarterback and Maurice Wells at running back. Two Wells runs and the ball is at the Michigan 18. Boeckman hits Brian Hartline in stride and suddenly it’s 42-7 with 13:16 left in the game. If I thought it was over before, there’s nothing but crying Wolverine fans now.
• Well, I think I’m heading down early. It’s been fun and Go Bucks.
• Final, Ohio State 42-7, a historic victory. It’s the fifth straight win for the Buckeyes in the series, the first time that has ever happened, it’s the second biggest margin of victory for Ohio State since beating Michigan 50-14 in 1968 and it secured a share of Ohio State’s fourth Big Ten title in a row. It also brought an end to the most miserable season in Michigan history, as the Wolverines finished 3-9. They missed going to a bowl game for the first time in 34 years, and they lost to Notre Dame, Michigan State and Ohio State all in the same season for just the second time in school history, the first since 1987.
