Congratulations Defiance for capturing your first Western Buckeye League title since the 2000 season following your 35-14 victory over Celina at home on Friday night on Senior Night. Bulldogs, you will now go down in history being just one of four teams to win a WBL title at Defiance.

After falling two games behind in the standings with three games to play, not many people, including myself, thought a WBL title would be possible. But you guys went out and took care of business and now a share of the title with St. Marys, Kenton and Lima Shawnee is yours.

I thought junior defensive lineman Zack Dempsey said it best when he told me after the game: “We’re going to have our picture on the wall for everyone to see.” That’s exactly right Zack … you and your teammates should be proud because an 8-win season that included a win over Napoleon and a WBL title will be something you guys won’t ever forget.
