Just call him the “Iceman!”
I got to be a part of a great high school football game last night and with it got to see a great clutch performance by a high school player. With just 17 seconds left in regulation and his team down by three points, Antwerp’s Gabe Cruz split the uprights to tie the game at 31-31. Sure other guys have done this but Cruz kept his cool as Ayersville burnt all of its timeouts trying to ice the young guy. And in the middle of that the Archers came out and attempted to draw Ayersville offside and when it didn’t work the Archers had to call a timeout of their own. Then in the second overtime, after Ayersville had its extra-point kick blocked, Cruz survived another timeout after the Archers scored to tie it up before splitting the uprights for the win. HECK OF A JOB GABE! THAT’S A PERFORMANCE TO BE PROUD OF!
Also giving a shout out to by boy Anthony King. After being bottled up for the past couple of weeks, AK broke out in a big way with a 230-yard 4-TD performance. The yardage gave AK the school’s career mark with 4,728 yards. AK also set the career mark for TDs, he now has 71. Congrats AK, it’s an honor to be a (very small) part of that.

For a foreigen exchange student from Brazil, that has never play football before, adapted to kicking field goals. He pulled a great victory for Antwerp beating Ayersville in 2OTs. Good Job Gabe!
